Why I love the IOL Basic Bushcraft FoundationalCompetency Certificated Course, or whatever we call it now. And why I’m proud to deliver it here in theForest of Dean…and why I think I will be promoting it long after it has ceasedto be of financial interest.
Choices and comparisons
I’m often asked by candidates and enquirers how the IOL Competency course measures in comparison with other “leader” or basic bushcraft courses and certificated courses, like those offering OCN and NCFE certificates. These are not easy questions to answer as often the question is more about value for money and quality of learning rather than an academic comparison. I sense in some questions, too, the same frustration that I had some years ago, I had real issues! I take time to talk to them and hopefully offer impartial advice but I am partial. I think that the curriculum and the companies presently delivering the course are excellent. I do try to encourage them to take advantage of this inexpensive resource that will prove to be a valuable building block whatever their personal needs and aspirations as bushcrafters, and whatever the future of the IOL course evolves to be. In my opinion, as CPD It’s a must for any youth leader, outdoor leader and Forest school practitioner that dabbles in the outdoors.
Well I would say that wouldn't I?
